Ergonomics

How should you proceed?

You should aim to personalize your client’s equipment. To do this, you need to identify all the elements in their daily life that could be improved—whether it’s the positioning and size of objects, insufficient lighting, or uncomfortable and poorly equipped workstations. You must analyze each situation to provide advice and, if necessary, material assistance.

The tools

The tools at your disposal include:

  • high-intensity task lighting,
  • reading stands to make reading easier. They also prevent the need to lean over a page or book, avoiding neck strain.

Why?

The environments your clients encounter are not always suited to the effort required by someone with low vision. Often, the lighting is inadequate, or the reading position is uncomfortable. This strains the visually impaired individual and prevents them from working for extended periods.

It is therefore essential to provide them with the best solutions and advice on the right practices to enable prolonged work.

What does ergonomics mean in this context?

An ergonomic approach means ensuring that in every situation, your client can work as easily as possible without fatigue. Your equipment advice should therefore not be limited to optical systems. In fact, sometimes other tools can yield far better results in terms of vision and comfort.
